Welcome to our Bio Page.
We hope you enjoy and are inspired by our stories, and set out to start your own stories.
My name is Joe. I was born and raised in Louisville, otherwise known as The Ville! Although I now reside in Southern Indiana, I still consider myself a Louisvillian. I work for a heavy equipment company in Louisville as a Credit Manager. I’m 33 years old, married with 2 wonderful little boys! Back in November I experienced a minor medical scare that made me very determined to change my sedentary lifestyle. This medical scare is something that can be controlled with the proper weight loss and exercise. I made a decision November 13, 2007 that I must make the necessary “lifestyle” changes. In the last 13 years, my life had changed from an active lifestyle to one a lot of people are familiar with today, the junk food & TV watching lifestyle. Because of this change, my weight ballooned from 190lbs and topped out at 271lbs! In simpler terms, I was really lazy! Despite feeling sluggish and tired about 90% of the time, I had no plans to change my way of life. Unfortunately, it took a medical problem for me to understand the seriousness of my problem. For the sake of my family, changes had to be made. Now, this brings me to running. I was able to quickly adapt my eating habits but needed to find an exercise that I could flourish in. Since I’m not into the whole “Muscle Man” thing, cardio was the direction I decided to go. I’ve always been intrigued by running and with the purchase of a used treadmill and new running shoes (courtesy of the great people at Swags), my journey began. With some light training to build stamina, I ran a 5K and fell in love with this sport. I’ve lost 50lbs and my medical issue has been handled. I feel better than I have in years!!!!!! Our introduction on the homepage pretty much sums up our goal for this website so I will end this here. Once again, thank you for visiting our website and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. |
Hello, my name is Tom. I was born in Tulsa, OK, and have moved around a lot over the course of my life. Me and my wife moved to the Louisville area in May of 1999, and have been glad to call it home ever since. I am 38 years old and the IS manager for a heavy construction equipment Dealer in Louisville. The reason I have joined Joe on this journey is in large part due to my father. I February 2007, I lost my father to a blood clot in his lungs only 5 days after having triple heart bypass surgery. My father had a heart attack and spent a little over a week in the hospital. I got to spend that week with my father in Arkansas, and I made a promise to him to get myself into shape, and to do what I can to ensure that I don’t find myself in the same place. I reached my heaviest at 210 lbs, and have since gotten back down to 200 and shrinking. I hope to get down to around 170. Running for me is more than just a way to lose weight and get into shape though. It gives me a chance to get outside, and enjoy nature, and to clear my mind. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t easy, but I have truly come to enjoy it in a short period, and actually look forward to getting home, trading the loafers for tennis shoes and hitting the road. Our current plan is to run several local 5K events in the Kentuckiana area, and an 8 miler in September. Then in 2009 we plan to run the Triple Crown races in Louisville which consists of a 5K, a 10K, and then a 10 Mile run during the month of March, followed by a Kentucky Derby Festival Mini-Marathon. Then In 2010, I plan to run in the Boston Marathon. You have to have goals to achieve. You can Click Here to view my training plan, and progress, or here to view my recent runs. I hope that our site, and stories, and the stories of others in our forums may inspire you to get off the couch and join us on the road. |
