Anyone ever done all three, or at least one of the three?

I'm thinking about doing this to MAKE sure I stay motivated throughout this winter...I can't let 5 months pass again without a race. And today's race left a bad taste in my mouth.

No I haven't, but thanks for posting them here. They look interesting. I also don't want to go 5 months without a race. These may just be the answer.

Tom, how was you and your wife's experience walking the Race for the Cure? Did you all have a good time? The weather was excellent and other than the already mentioned issues, it was a decent event!

I am 99% certain I'll be registering for these 3 races, I think it'll be great fun! Not that I am predicting snow, but do you guys have any experience running in the snow? I did it for the first time last year and I definitely want to find a better way--my pace was GREATLY slowed due to the slickness out on the streets. Plus, because of that same thing, it's just not safe, not to mention the cars passing...

I enjoyed being one of the craziest runners out there last winter, being so dedicated as to run in all weather but I just want to find a safer way!

We enjoyed it, she got lot's of goodies, and it was great to see that many out supporting the cause. I was just walking it with her, so we didn't pay the extra for chip timing, so the distance issue wasn't an issue, but if I had ran, I would have been upset as well.

This will be my first winter, so I have never ran in the snow. I'm guessing I'll need some spikes if I plan to try. It would probably be best to join a gym and run indoors during those days for safety reasons as you pointed out, but that is just not in the budget right now. Any suggestions or pointers would be welcome.

For me, running in the winter meant experimenting. The first few days-week of the REALLY cold weather are usually the toughest because of the increased amount of gear and the cold air. I personally think you're MUCH better off if you consistently run outside--thereby giving your body the opportunity to experience the change in the weather from fall's mild warmth to winter's blistery cold.

I'm going to do some shopping in a moment (from the comfort of this chair) and see if I can find some decent running socks that go up to my knee or mid calf, at least. And some tights...I pretty much made due with regular clothes all winter and I did well but I am ready for more technical gear so that I can continue to be comfortable and experience worthy increases in my running fitness, I want to be ready for April!

I searched for spikes last year but never committed. They have those Yaktrax too but I'm not sure what people think of those.

How cool is that! I always love a good do it yourself project. I will definetly be doing the screw shoe. I don't have to much time left on my current shoe, so I'll just get 2 pairs next time and fix one pair for snow and ice so that I'm not having to switch between 2 different styles of shoe. My feet tend to be picky, and don't like me switching back and forth. Thanks for the tip.

I'm sorta scared to do that! It seems like everyone likes it but I'm scared the screw end will pierce my feet! LOL

Let me know how it works for you, and then I might try it!

Will do. The fun part will be the first run. I suppose it is possible that standing or walking on them you might not feel it, but the first time you really run, could put more pressure in one area or another, then ouch  .
