What do you typically eat before a run?

NaDa usually unless a LSD, then I'll take sport beans with me just in case. I try to not eat before going out even if I do happen to run in the morning.

My weekday routine means running immediately after work. I bring my bag with me and change at the park. The meal preceding that is lunch, which I typically eat about 5 hours prior to the run. Usually I have a light snack between lunch and the run and just make sure I drink a lot of water. I find that on weekdays, my body has enough fuel to keep me going...

Saturday mornings are my long runs. I get up, have a banana or a small cup of yogurt and water. I wait...until... ...and then I head out for my run!

I hate eating too soon before running or having too much water...even the SOUND of that stuff sloshing around during my run makes me feel ill and keeps me from being able to focus!

I completely agree. I don't ever drink more than just a couple of sips of water or anything right before heading out. I take water with me on LSD days, but I don't usually drink much of it until I'm doing my cool down, but it helps knowing that I have it if I need it.

I have a (what I call) juice glass amount of water before my LSD. Once I down that, that's all I have pre-run because I am notorious for having to pee a lot.

I learned my lesson two weeks ago running my LSD at Bernheim...I have a dedicated water stop at about mile 4-5 there and usually hit it up for a quick drink just to wet my whistle. Well, that week, they had all of the water shut off! I ran to the next nearest fountain and no water there either! I made it the 8 miles without water but I was NOT happy. Next time I will plant a bottle mid route so that doesn't happen again.

That would have sucked thinking you would have water and then not.

4 or less, and I don't really care. (unless it's racing!) Once I get up to the 5-mile range, I can't eat for like 3 hours before. 1 hour before, I'll have a Clif bar, then 30 minutes before I can eat yogurt without an issue, and if it's 8+ miles, I'll go ahead and have GU #1 15 minutes before I take off.

I have a strawberry banana GU sitting in my bag and haven't used it yet. I've never had one before...so I'm too scared to use it. LOL

Bleck, I tried one and didn't care for it. But then, I am rather picky.

Personally, it's one of my favorites. Tri-Berry isn't bad either.

Take his word for it, he is picky!!!! I have one but I've yet to try it. I don't think I've run far enough to need one yet. That's about to change as my fuel belt will be here this week.

At 8 or 9 miles, I started thinking about fueling with things like the beans and GU. If I weren't as slow as I am, I wouldn't need it but I'm nearing 2 hour long runs because my pace is in the 12:xx range...I need fuel at least halfway through.

I actually LIKED the strawberry banana GU a lot. I warmed it up a bit (in my hands) and took half of it. And my performance DID improve for the remainder of the run--I was wearing my body down without any fuel or water and it was what I needed.

I'll be using GU again--bought Tri-berry, more straw. banana and espresso love (word of mouth that it is good, but I'm SCARED). It is convenient and easy to down, IMO.
