Seems like the appropriate place for this...

What are the absolute necessities on a running playlist?

-Audioslave - Cochise
-Evanesence - All That I'm Livin' For
-Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
-Foo Fighters - All My Life
-Green Day - Brain Stew
-Linkin Park - Faint
-Metallica - Fuel
-Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
-REO Speedwagon - Time For Me To Fly
-Tom Petty - Running Down A Dream

And if you're into a bit heavier music:

-Drowning Pool - Bodies; Step Up
-Mudvayne - Dig; Happy
-Rob Zombie - Dragula; Living Dead Girl

And if you tolerate rap:

-Usher - Yeah!
Trick Daddy - Let's Go

And in the guilty pleasures:

-Justin Timberlake - Sexyback (vain, I know...)
-Meatloaf - Paradise By The Dashboard Lights

I had to go get my iPod to get the songs off of my personalized Running playlist...

Quick intro about me--I don't tolerate hip hop, I LOVE hip hop/rap. I love R&B and I love old soul music. I also love jazz! And to add, I really love a diverse group of rock artists/bands.

The songs I put on my Running playlist are there because they either pump me up and make me feel good about running OR they inspire me in some way.

Don't judge me, I feel sorta vulnerable putting out my heart here...LOL

(Don't Fear) the Reaper--Blue Oyster Cult...this song just makes me feel like running! That guitar solo is killer!

Every Little Step--Bobby Brown...one of my favorite songs ever, and it's just got such a great vibe and beat!

Got to Be Real--Cheryl Lynn

Wall to Wall--Chris Brown

Oh--Ciara...love the beat on this, and her voice is low and controlled enough where I can sing along and test my breathing

Contact--Citizen Cope

Shiver--Coldplay...another one of my very favorites! Great song!

Comin' Back--Citizen Cope...Umm, another favorite. LOVE IT!

Lost!--Coldplay

Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love--Coldplay...another great, upbeat tempo to run to--I love running trails with this one

Geto Heaven Pt. 2--Common ft. D'Angelo...mellow for nice LSD!

Fortunate Son--CCR...Need I say more, I mean c'mon...

Juice--Eric B. and Rakim...Again, classic, need I explain?

Transformer--Gnarls Barkley...Abbey Road Studio version for mellow runs, original for faster ones

Just a Thought--Gnarls Barkley..good one!

Rhythm Nation--Janet Jackson...used to really pump me up when I was young, I wanted to dance like her so bad! So this one is definitely a motivator when running too!

That's a taste of what I have on mine...I won't bore you all anymore!

kl0wn, I'm gonna have to download a couple of those because I'm not familiar with some of them, even though I like the artists.

My current power playlist
Givin' the dog a bone - AC/DC
One of these Days - Pink Floyd
Black Dog - Led Zeppelin
Coo Coo - Janis Joplin
Going to Claifornia - Led Zeppelin
Heartbreaker - Led Zeppelin
Riders on the Storm - The Doors
Jumpin Jack flash - Rolling Stones
Don't Look Around - Mountain
A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles
Fins - Jimmy Buffett
Dirty Dog - ZZ Top
Reeling In the Years - Steely Dan
I Can't Get No Satisfaction - Rolling Stones
Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin
Run Through the Jungle - Creedence Clearwater Revival
The Ballad or John and Yoko - The Beatles
Shoot to Thrill - AC/DC

This is just the current list, I change about every 2 weeks depending on my current mood. I have about 5700 music tracks in iTunes, and about 2000 standup comedian tracks, but I haven't found those to be very useful when running.

Nice list, Tom!

I have some Flight of the Conchords on one of my playlists. I LOVE them! And honestly, it's fun to listen to them while running--not the same as stand up comedy but it's comedy to music!

Oh, CCR... Run Through the Jungle and Fortunate Son... Both excellent choices. Thanks for the reminder, Tom!

And Bob Seger's "Travelin' Man / Beautiful Loser (live)" is another I really like to run to.

Probably the most befitting song I've heard so far though, came about on mile 12 of my half... Jackson Browne's "Running on Empty"... I LOL'd.

I love Flight of the Conchords. My playlists are confirdential!!! Not really, I just don't feel like typing it out. A variety from old school hip hop to new school hip hop to Beck to Coldplay to U2 to Linkin Park(Bleed it Out is my power song) to Old 70's Funk to Prince to Johnny Cash to Loretta Lynn(only the one with Jack White).....to White Stripes to Marilyn Manson to Smashing Pumpkins......that's all I can think of right now.

OMG freakin hilarious. My wife wouldn't get the humor in it, but I think it is great. To bad Dexter is on Showtime and Flight of the Conchords is on HBO. We don't have either, but she loves Dexter, so I could swing getting it and saying it was so she could watch Dexter. I don't think I could get her to go for both.
