Last night I was helping my cousin move a refridgerator and we were discussing the chilly air when he said, "I can't believe you ran that marathon on Saturday when it was chilly and raining'!!! Uhhhhhh, I ran what?? a what??? He is by no means even remotely close to an active person, not to mention a runner, so I didn't correct him but I got a bit of a chuckle out of it.

If the last mile of my 8 mile run Saturday is anything like what my last mile of a Marathon will be, I'm in for some pain.

I have friends who refer to half marathons as "little marathons", since I get perturbed when they call a half, a marathon... Which is just as annoying.

You should have just used something like this: "To quote the great Ice Cube, 'Life ain't a track meet, it's a marathon." I love throwing out random quotes like that, just to see the confused looks. :D

Everyone at work (non-runners who think I'm insane) refers to ALL of my races as "marathons." And EVERY time I explain to them that a marathon is 26.2 miles. The races I run are NOT 26.2 miles. Yet, they continue to call them marathons. LOL

I bet if I started saying I was going to run a marathon, they wouldn't give a crap!

I also love this one, "So a 5K is 3 miles?"

"No, a 5K is three-point-ONE miles... The three mile portion isn't bad, it's that damn point-one that's a killer!"
