This past Saturday my son (Everson) & I ran the Race Against ALS at Slugger Field. There was a 5K or 10K option & we opted for the 10K! We haven't run that distance before and I thought we both did a great job considering our training has been seriously hindered with heat, illnesses and more heat! Everson won the 10 - 19 year old age group and got a medal. Good for him.

For the first time this event was held I thought it was done pretty well. They had early packet pickup the night before, which I always like. The morning of the run they had fruit, bagels, and water available inside slugger field. After the race they had more fruit & water AND pizza from Papa John's. Not for me after that long of a run in the heat... but Everson enjoyed a slice.

The 10K run started a little confusing. We had a different starting location than the 5K runners. They called for the 10K runners to follow another race director to the start, but then some 5K runners got confused and tried to follow. Then we hear some lady calling us to "Come back!" just to find out it wasn't meant for us, she was calling after her two children who were running the 5K. So we had to turn around and go back... AGAIN. The race started late AND for the 10K runners there was no warning that the race was going to start. All of a sudden we hear the horn blow and were "shocked" into running!

Two water stops in the 5K (4 if you were in the 10K). The 10K course was just running the course twice. Not a bad course, similar to the Grand Slam 4 miler two weeks ago.

Onward now to the Human Race in Chicago!

Congrats to you and Everson!!!! That start would have been difficult for anyone. Kind of reminds me of the Throo the Zoo run that was a complete disaster. How many people do you think were in this race?

There were approximately 40 people who ran the 10K, while at least 200 (if not more) ran the 5K. A whole group of Louisville Metro Police officers ran the 5K.

yep, I ran the Throo the Zoo one also and it was similar in its start... SURPRISE!

Way to go and way to do the 10K!! Congrats!!

Throo the Zoo start was funny, so many people were annoyed and I was nervous for some reason and that standing around makes me so anxious!!!

I don't have a race until October, so if anyone knows of any upcoming 5Ks, let me know! I'd like to do one before then. In Oct., I have 2 5Ks and the 1/2 if I do it!!!

Wish I could go to Chi-town!

Godd job guys on your first 10K. Sounds like the start was a bit confusing, but all in all sounds like it was a good race for you all. :wav:

That's one bad thing about working some weekends!

I'm doing the Gaslight 5K on 9/16. It starts at 7pm so it will be an after work race for me. Early registration is only $14.

I didn't intend to drink as much as I did but the DBF talked me into some Blue Moon after we finished the wine at dinner. LOL I'm a lightweight now. It seems the more fit I get, the less I can handle the alcohol!

I treated myself to some McD's this morning, a little grease can go a long way the morning after!

I need to run still, I didn't do it yet! I'm thinking about heading over to the park this evening!
