Hey there, I decided to come on over and show some love. You can call me Hippiedigger, Im 31 and have been running for about a year and a half. I did slack off BIG time during the winter, but thats not happening this year. Since I started running I have lost 50+ pounds, I was 240. Running has been a bit of salvation for me, it has done great things for my self confidence as well. I have only ran in 2 races and both were last month. I ran in the Fleet Feet 3 Mile and came in 36th at 23:43. Two weeks ago I ran in the Pioneer 5K and finished at 23:04. I can't wait to race again. My next race is the Highlands Cup 5K, thats all I have on the table at the moment. Yesterday I ran 5 miles nonstop for the first time, I didn't time myself though. I usually run at Cherokee Parks scenic loop, it's right down the road. I am really trying to push myself to the next level. Anyway, thats my story.... thus far

Welcome to our humble abode. We're glad to have you, and I think it's pretty safe to say I won't be pulling any post's over here within reason of course. I have been running since March, and am loving it. Sounds like running has been good to you. Congrats on the weight loss. I have lost about 28 lbs, and would like to lose about another 15 or so. Sounds like you are a much faster runner than my self. I have ran about 7 or 8 races, and most all of them are over the 10 mpm mark. I have been getting quicker, but I am probably focusing more on my distances right now. My last race was the HumanRace in Chicago, and my next is the 15K Downtown doubler on the 21st. Working towards the KDF mini next year. Any way, glad to have you here.

We appreciate the love! We are new runners and have been at it since early March. Some of your experiences relate directly to us. I had a medical scare last November that set me straight. I've lost right at 70lbs. From 264lbs to 192lbs. Tom has some family history with heart disease and wanted to feel better which is what prompted his interest. He didn't have near the weight to lose that I did but last I heard he has dropped about 25-30lbs. Running has become part of who I am. I've ran 9 races(I think, it might be 10) and have enjoyed every experience. My longest distance was last Sunday and it was 7 miles. My next race is the Gaslight Festival 5k on 9/16. Its an evening race and close to my job, not to mention the entry fee is only $14.

Our ultimate goal is the Derby Festival Mini-Marathon. We have already registered for next years race. Its not an end to our running by any means but it was part of the motivation to get started. I grew up near Southern Pkwy and watched the mini for several years. To actually run it will be incredible.

Welcome to the forum and please don't hesitate to post any questions. We might be newbies and definitely not experts, but we study running like a college course.

Hey hippiedigger!! Glad you came!

I just found these guys not too long ago, but I'm glad I did. I really was upset that I had no place to turn to for race dates, comraderie and overall motivation and support in our area, so it made me happy to find these guys.

I'll tell you a little about me since everyone else is sharing, sorry if it's a repeat for you all! But I've been running for over 10 years now, off and on. In college, I started hitting it hard, hoping to walk on the track team at UK but I also had to work and the NCAA rules were not flexible enough to allow me to work as much as I needed. I was POOR! So I kept running as a hobby but never could run more than 4 miles...until this year. I've kept pushing so much this year and it's so awesome to see results. My longest run has been 7 miles and I'm continuing to train for endurance AND speed.

I, like Tom and Joe, have a big goal of completing the KDF mini. I am registering for it this Friday, after I get paid! I know that if I keep up my good work, I will make it there and maybe we'll all go get drunk afterwards! LOL

Glad you came on over hippie, stay in touch, we need some action ova hurr!!!

I plan to make the Mini a celebration. I'm taking off part of the week to soak everything in and attend the expo. As far as getting drunk afterward, I'm in!!!! It was already in my plans. I plan to party like a rock star!!!!
