The Short Version: I ran a 5K and had a PR, 23:47(Unofficial)

The Long Version: This was the 21st Annual Gaslight Festival 5K, but my 1st time running it. You can obviously tell the more experienced races from the newbie's due to the fact they are much more prepared. Considereing the wind storm we had here and the fact half the city is shut down, it went off without a hitch. I'm guessing but there appeared to be about 600 runners and they claimed it was their best turn out so far. It was also a Tuesday evening race which I found intriguing.

I felt really good and strong for this race so I debated for the last week whether I would try for a PR. I didn't know the course so I really had no idea what to expect.

1st Mile- I felt really strong, and I ran hard. Mostly downhill, with one slight incline. About a quarter mile in, I smelled a horrible body odor from another runner. I looked up and it was the same guy from a previous run I was in that had the same problem. This guys body odor is absolutely horrible and he should see a doctor. It is offensive to other runners. I smelled him a good 10-15 feet away. I couldn't pass him fast enough to get away from it.

2nd Mile- Rather uneventful. Just running through a neighborhood. I was looking at the Garmin too much.

Final 1.1 Mile- I ran hard the 1st 2 miles and started thinking I ran too hard. I was feeling it at this point but kept plugging away. I knew at the 2 mile split that I was on track for a PR so I wanted to finish strong. I looked up at the finish line clock and saw 23 mins and a few seconds. I thought oh yea, with a final kick I'm going to crush my PR. The problem-I had no final kick!! I was completely out of gas and had to coast in. Oh well, I still got that PR so it was a great race!! My time as I crossed the line was 23:47, a 43 second improvement over my previous PR. Go me!!!!

OMG that's great!!! I bow before you!!!!!! I really wish I would have done it this year...but with my new job, there's no point in planning anything fun or anything scheduled for the first week or two...talk about working late!
