Been having knee trouble.

11/07/08 | by Tom [mail] | Categories: Uncategorized
After running 14 miles a few weeks ago, I have been having a little trouble with my right knee. I'm not sure, but I think it was just been a slight case of runners knee. I don't think it is an IT band issue as it seems to be across the top of the knee cap. Any way my training went from 80 miles in August to just under 60 in October. It seems to be doing better, and I have been slowly increasing my evening runs up to 3 miles. I plan to go for 4 around New Albany this evening and then 6-8 depending on how it feels on Sunday. We'll see how it goes. I have been making a lot of changes to the RunTheVille website as of late. You may notice a new and improved race calender that will allow you to flip through the calendar. You can click on a race event to get more info such as the races website, registration links etc. You can also no search for races by category such as 5K, 8K, Marathon, etc by choosing the type of race in the category drop down box at the top, and then clicking the "Go" button on the right side of the calendar. To go back to viewing all race types, choose run in the drop down and click the Go button again. If you host a race that isn't listed, click on the "Submit your race" link at the top, provide me with your info, and I will get it added. You may also notice a new "Race Results" link on the Home page. I will try to get this updated as soon as I find that there are new race results published. If you know of some results that I don't have listed, shoot me a link at tom@runtheville.com and I'll get them added. I guess that sums up most of the current changes, so I guess I'll wrap it up for now. Talk to you all again soon.

Had a great run last night

I started out the door about 6:00 pm. It was a little on the warm side, about 90 degrees, and 63% humidity. I started to not go, but decided to at least go for a short (3 miles) run. After the first mile, I was feeling good, and I was maintaining about an 11 min. pace, so I decided maybe we would go on with the original plan for a long run. The wife wasn't going to be home for about 2 hours, so that would give me about 1 1/2 to run and still have time to take a shower before she got home. I ended up running 6.6 miles in 1:14:20. That's my longest run yet, and I was happy with the pace. Not record setting or anything but a good pace for me for a training run especially given the heat and humidity. I may run a quick set of intervals tonight, but other than that, I'm going to take off until Saturdays 4 miler race at Slugger Field.

New Best

Well, last month was a good month for me. I set a new PR for monthly distance of 40 miles. That's probably not a lot for a lot of people, but I was very happy with that. I have been feeling good, and have not been having as much trouble with Shin Splints. Goal for this month is at least 50 miles. Preparing for the Nike+ Human Race, so I know I want to have a few LSD runs over the 6 mile mark. That to will be a new one day distance record for me. So far my longest run has been 5.6 miles. I just need to make sure and keep my trainging run speed down. I have been running to fast for these runs. Last night I kept it at about a 12 mpm, and felt great.

St. Mary's Navilleton Church Chicken Fun Run/Walk

This was quite the run. It was very scenic, but I had heard it was a fairly easy run with only one hill. In reality it was one continuous hill that went up and down almost continuously with one mountain of a hill to climb to the finish line. I think I would have prefered to run it the opposite direction. It wasn't a race that any one took overly seriously. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and after thinking about it a little, I didn't really mind the course. It just helped to show me that I need more hill work in my training. All in all, it was a good race.

Southern Parkway 8K Result

This was a great run. You started on Southern parkway, ran around Iroquois park, and then back out on Southern Parkway ending near Woodlawn. I ran the 4.97 miles in 52:18. I'm quite happy with that time as this is the longest run I have participated in to date, and actually expected to average closer to around 11 or 12 minute mile with the extra distance, and running through the park with all the hills. The only issue I had was the parking situation. They had us park approximately a mile from the finish line, but other than that I thought it was great. They had someone giving split times for every mile. I will definately do this run again next year.

Mainly for tracking my daily workouts and what not on my quest to run my way from a beginning Louisville runner to the Boston Marathon by way of Kentucky Derby Festival Mini and Marathons. Maybe even Chicago or NYC along the way. If you're going to dream, dream big.
