I'm late again this week!! Last week was a taper week so down mileage. I did 2 runs and one hard bike trainer ride so it was productive. I am feeling good right now. My eating habits are improving and I'm progressing well.
Tuesday - ran 5 miles of speedwork on the TM at the hotel. There was a huge miror in the room that reminded me I look like a fat guy running. I need to drop about 20lbs by summer.
Thursday - 30 mins on the bike trainer
Saturday - Schedule called for 6, but I did 7.5 and pushed the pace. It was a hard run around Iroquois and I was hurting the rest of the day.
Sunday - This was a GREAT workout. I did 15 miles of intervals on the bike trainer. I had my Time Trial bike on the trainer and even put on my aero helmet and absolutely pushed it as hard as I could for a mile at a time. I was riding hard for a mile, resting for 1/2 mile. It was awesome!!
I'm already mid-way thru this week and due to broken TM's at the hotel, its not been good. Update coming next week. I'm hoping the 20 miles on Saturday will make up for it.
Now that its almost time for part 11, it's about time I get to writing about last week which included a true distance PR.
Monday - 17 miles on the bike. I didn't see a need to run 2 miles just to pound my legs more. I was off work due to snow so I jumped on the bike trainer for a while. Since I'm racing my bike this summer...a lot, I need to put some time in on the trainer anyway. It was a solid workout.
Wednesday - 2 miles on the TM before my lower left leg started giving me problems. I got off the TM and headed over to the exercise bike for 30 mins. I've had better workouts but at least it was something.
Saturday - Here is the day I set out to conquer a true distance PR, again!! I did it the week before at 16 miles but 18 seemed like a daunting task. You may remember I did 19 two weeks ago but it was split 5+14 at different times of the day. This was 18 all at once. It was my best run ever. I felt strong and battled snowy sidewalks all the way down Eastern Pkwy. It was tough, no question but it was also thrilling. I experienced some knee pain but I seemed to have recovered from that just fine.
My running has been going well this week. Its a taper week so no long run for me. More about that next week. I've also changed up my diet and started to really get into my core work this week.
I'm a little late with this weeks post but here it is. I solid week of training, nothing spectacular but very solid. The snow is a huge issue with running right now. It needs to go away and stay away.
Monday - I took the day off after logging 19 miles on Sunday.
Tuesday - I rode the bike 5 miles on the trainer. Thats all I could do. I was still a little sore.
Wednesday - 5 miles on the TM at the gym. I struggled with lower left leg pain on this run. I was schedule fro 6 but was happy with 5. I made it, but it was tough.
Saturday - I was scheduled for 16 miles. I met Joe and another friend at Hogans Fountain and we knocked out 7 prior to the race. We got back just in time. Due to the ice on the course, they were forced to cut it short by about .75 so when I finish I still have 5.75 to get in my 16 for the day. I tookl in some water, a gel and off I went for 5.75 more miles. This part of my run was tough. I didn't push too hard during the race becasue of the ice and the fact I had more running to do. The last 2 miles were grueling trying to run on snow covered sidewalks.
I was able to get a distance PR. Even though I ran 19 miles last weekend, it was split 5-14 at different times of the day. To me that doesnt count. 16 miles is my new official PR and it was a solid run with a very good recovery. I could run 10 today but its not on the schedule thank god!
An interesting week of training to say the least. Overall, I did what I was supposed to do and actually did 10 miles more than what was on the training schedule. Frustration leads us to stupid decisions sometimes and that's the case here. I also have to get cycling out of my head for a few more weeks....ughh!
Monday - 2 miles at the gym and it was HORRIBLE. I tried new shoes that will be going on ebay very soon.but I did it and thats all that matters.
Wednesday - I ran 7 miles at Seneca. It was nice to run outside but I had absolutely no lift in my legs. I really wanted to push it on this run but it wasnt there. I finish with 7.2 miles.
Saturday - I went to the gym to run 10-12 due to the snow. Was kicked off TM after an hour so I logged 5.2 with a goal of doing 14 on Sunday.
Sunday - Headed out at 7am to do 14 but had too much on my mind so I cut it short. I was VERY discouraged. Got over my issues, headed back out in the afternoon and did 14 more, for a total of 19 miles.
It wasn't the best of weeks but I made, even though I'm pretty sore today. 16 miles for this weeks long run.
I stuck to the schedule and even got in an extra mile. It was a good, productive week of running so things are going well. I had to run on the treadmill all week but other than that, I can't complain. In addition, I decided I will be racing the Tour of the Red River Gorge in June. I am super excited about it!! It's a 3 day event and starts with a Time Trial on Friday!
Monday - Started the week with a 5 miler at the gym. I rolled right through it. Nothing exciting, just a good solid run.
Wednesday - Just like Monday, other than the guy next to me coughing uncontrollably all over the TM. Then his sweat started hitting me in the leg. It was horrible.
Saturday - Schedule called for 5, but did 6 with a friend on the TM at the gym. The 1st 3 miles were great, last 3 not so much.
My long runs really start to ramp up this week. I need to have a good nutrition, stretching, and core work week. 14 miles on the agenda for Saturday!! 16 the following week, then 18!!! whoa!
