Marathon Monday Pt. 5....it's going, mileage is going up up up!!

01/18/10 | by Joe [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

I was finally able to get past the toe issue. Whew, that was by far the worst blister I have ever had. I decided last week that I was going to put in time on the bike instead of running to allow the toe time to heal. As you can see below, that didn't go as planned. At least I'm back on track for the coming week. In addition, my main focus this week is diet...I saw a pic of me from my race Saturday and that extra 20lbs I'm carrying is showing up big-time!! Gotta get that under control. That means less fast-food which has been a big part of my diet recently. That must change now!

Monday - Instead of running, I decided to allow my blistered toe some more time to heal and jumped on the bike trainer. I would consider my workout to be very productive as I went HARD for 12 miles. Overall, it was the equal to 3 miles which was on the schedule for this day.

Thursday - I skipped Wednesday because it was my birthday and had other plans, so it was pushed back to Thursday. Again, decided to lay off the toe and ride the bike 20 miles on the trainer and go hard! Well, I maybe turned the crank twice before my trainer died. It made the most awful noise you have ever heard in your life. No workout on this day and that was disappointing.

Saturday - So, after not getting anything done on Thursday I knew I needed to do well today. I had a 5K race as part of the Polar Bear Gran Prix, and an additional 7 training miles to get in. I met Joe at the park at 7:30 and we got in 6 before the race. My form is still off and I'm pounding the pavement when I run. Nothing smooth about my stride these days and I'm hoping as I get in better shape that it will work itself out. My form has me concerned. Once we got back and took some fluids in, it was time for the race. I ran really well on a very tough 5K course. I finished in 25:11 which I think is off by about 6 seconds but I don't care. I did a 1/2 mile cool down to finish the day with 9.7 miles. Not the 10 I planned, but considering a hard run race was in there, I'll give up the .3 mile. No issue with the toe.

This week I'm focused not only on my running, but my diet. I am going to get it under control. 2 miles today, 6 Wed., & 12 on Saturday....I feel I'm ready for the week ahead.....
