3 days to go to kdf mini marathon

Ran one of my last runs prior to the mini last night at Iroquois Park with Joe, Christian, and Christian's sis-in-law. We met up at the usual place by the amphitheater at a little after 5:30 pm. I think we all wanted one more shot at the loop before the mini, and Christian's sis-n-law had never run the park so it was probably good so she knows what to expect.

We took off running the same direction(clockwise) that the mini route will take us. As usual that first hill sucks. It always gets me warmed up quick though as by the time I reach the top of it I'm always panting a bit and have a good heart rate going. For the next 1 - 1.5 miles, everything went pretty well. We were all running together and chatting. Along about the 1.5 mile mark or so, Joe started having some issues with his legs, and dropped back for a bit. May have had a little to do with the slower pace we were running at the time. Then he decided to try to run it out to see if speeding up a bit would help and passed by us.

We ran like that until we got to the last big hill. Joe continued to power through the hill as normal. Me and Christian's sis-n-law did the same running about 75-100 ft behind Joe, and along the way, Christian drifted back. I think the pace was just more than he was ready for at the time given the pace that we had already running was faster than his normal pace. Once we made it over the top, and back down to the bottom of the hill, I ran on ahead and caught up with Joe, and Christian's sis ran back and caught up with him. We all met back up at the parking lot.

Along the way it tried to rain on us a little, but all in all, once we were running, the temp was pretty good, and all in all, I would say it was a pretty good run. Garmin had it at 3.32 miles at a 9:15 pace.

I think the biggest problem I had last year was nothing dealing with running, but Churchill Downs. People were stopping in the tunnel to wait for friends and not getting out of the way. People were also taking pictures, stopping to point at things and again, not getting out of the way. Enjoy running the track, just be aware of sudden stops. I think your group is going to do great. You've all done everything right, trained the hills, did speed work, ice baths, motivated each other, rested. Have fun and enjoy your debuts!!

I will run someone over or no so politely tell them to get out of my way if they stop right in front of me. I have no problems speaking my mind while running a race. If they don't understand common courtesy, they deservse a reminder. Just my 2 cents!

I think this blog is really useful and informative. Please keep up the good work it is great to read content on a blog that is not just self obsessed nonsense. I hope I can develop a blog of this standard eventually, although I must admit I find blogging very time consuming and difficult. I wish someone would write a blog on how to produce a really interesting blog like this one.
